Welcome back from our extended break!

Today’s free write topic: Name a totally useless possession and describe how you/your character came to possess it.

Due to missing two of our lab days, I’m shortening your assignments for the week significantly. You will still write five poems, but poem 2, which usually takes a few days of research in addition to writing, will now be replaced with a submission to Poetry In Public. These are seven-line poems (maximum) that evoke an image of life as we live it. These will be submitted to the Poetry in Public competition. If you would like to see examples, there are lists of the selected poets on the Poetry in Public website along the left hand side of the screen.

In addition, to save us time, I have created a template for the poetry unit work. This is already formatted! Here’s how to use it:

  1. Log in to Google Docs.
  2. Click on the poetry unit template.
  3. Go to FILE and then MAKE A COPY.
  4. Name your file something you’ll remember.
  5. Write your poems on that file, following the directions.
