4/5 – Continuing Form

Daily warm up: What is your secret (or not so secret) obsession?

Daily focus: We’ll continue to look at ways writers subvert memoir by writing in different forms, looking at an excerpt from Dear Boy (Heather Weber) and an excerpt from Brown Girl Dreaming (Jacqueline Woodson).

We’re going to pay attention to the way these writers use very concrete, specific language and details as well as how they tie those ideas to bigger ideas and tone.

For today’s experiment, I’m asking you to imitate those writers by writing a scene from your life as a letter or as a non-fiction poem.
