About Mrs. B
Alina Borger Germann graduated from Grinnell College in 1999 with a BA in English, earned her MA in Creative Writing from Regis University in August of 2011, and is currently working on completing her MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She spent four years working as a life coach and spiritual mentor for college students at Coe College and The University of Iowa, and has been writing and teaching high school English since 2004.
She spent several years teaching AP Literature in both the physical classroom and online via Northwestern University’s Gifted Learning Links program. She is the 1999 recipient of the Promising Teacher Award from the Iowa Council of Teachers of English (ICTE). She co-presented at the 2000 NCTE Convention in Milwaukee, WI. She was named as the Iowa City Education Association’s Educator of the Year in 2012-2013, and, later in the same year, was also named the Regional ECUU Teacher of the Year. In 2016, she was named to the US Department of Education Distinguished Teachers List through the Presidential Scholars program. Currently, she teaches ninth through twelfth grades, where she strives to be her students’ biggest fan.
Alina has been writing, revising, and publishing fiction and poetry since 2000. Her novels are represented by Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency. She is the author of Tuesday’s Children (Hermeneutic Chaos Press), and her work has appeared in Midwestern Gothic, The Cider Press Review, Stirring, and The Pittsburgh Poetry Review, among others.
